Our client is a small but but well-funded, ground-breaking materials company headquartered in London and with offices in the USA. The company was incorporated to commercialise a revolutionary polymer technlogy first developed by a multi-billion dollar US corporation. Our client has an exclusive global license to develop the technology in a market with estimated market potential in the $100 billions. This is a unique opportunity to help shape an early stage technology business pioneering a new generation of materials science.
Reporting to the COO, the Business Development Director shall lead a small team to exploit opportnities initally across Europe and eventually worldwide. The company will enter the market selling specialist additive materbatch targeting (initially) downstream LLDPE film manufacturers and consumer good companies.
The BDD shall be responsible for executing the BD and sales strategy, managing customer development projects and manufacturing trials, negotiating commercial contracts ad ultimately launching products.
The individual hired will need to travel around 30% and spend considerable time in the london office as part of the leadership team and to mentor and develop the existing small BD team. It is hoped the successful candidate will be based within commuting distance but if not a home base elsewhee in the UK or continental Europe with a commitment to spend 2-3 days in the office would be considered.
You must be a highly ambitious and energetic business development or comercial professional with extensive experience in the EU/US in polymers markets, ideally polyethylene film market; either with a major resin producer, additive blender or film manufacturer.
You must have demonstrable leadership qualities, enjoy a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment and ideally have experience deveoping robust business plans and structured market analysis - in this respect some experience working in a trategy consulting firm would be advantageous albeit not essential.
