Our client is a leading Americas-based company in marketing and distributing of chemicals and raw materials. They also provide logistical and related services to other chemical distributors and clients in sectors such as oil and gas, agriculture, paints and coatings, adhesives, water treatment, food, and personal care. The company has an extensive distribution network and logistical infrastructure in the Americas and China.
The Category Manager, India is a new role and will be the single point of contact for all chemicals sourced from India. The company has been purchasing several tens of million dollars from India via an intermediary but now wishes to appoint an internal Manager to do this. The role will report to the Head of non-Americas Procurement who is based in a new office in Shanghai. The person hired could be based there (if currently based in China) and travel quarterly to India on sourcing trips or be home based at first in India (anywhere) until business can justify establishing a local Indian office.
As part of the role, the person will coordinate the consolidation of the orders, leading and executing all procurement processes: category planning, sourcing, implementation, and supplier management within the area of scope.
